Industry Standards and Development

  • To do research and study the requirements of standards, guidelines and regulations;

  • To draft tourism related standards and guidelines;

  • As a Secretariat to the Brunei Darussalam Standards Committee on Tourism;

  • To audit and inspect for the safety of tourism facilities;

  • To develop the requirements, basic course content and training programme of tourism training institutions or organisations;

  • To monitor and compile safety certification and standard requirements recognised by the department to be used by the tourism sector;

  • To facilitate and award national standards relevant to the tourism sector;

  • To facilitate and implement relevant tourism standards in the country such as:-

    • ASEAN Green Hotel Standard;

    • ASEAN Green Hotel Standard;

    • ASEAN Homestay Standard;

    • ASEAN Public Toilet Standard;

    • ASEAN Spa Service Standard;

    • Tourism Security And Safety Guidelines;

    • ASEAN Tourism Standards In Responding To The Climate Change;

    • ASEAN Clean Tourist City Standards;

    • ASEAN Tourism To Address The Climate Change Issue;

    • ASEAN Community-Based Tourism Standard

Licensing and Enforcement

Functions:

  • To study and formulate licensing policies relating to tourism industry

  • To license Travel Agents.

  • To license Tourist guides.

  • To register and classify Tourist Accommodation Premises 

  • To register and classify tourist accommodation premises.

  • To formulate and revise legislation related to the tourism industry from time to time.

  • To implement and enforce the laws of the tourism industry and regulations made thereunder.

  • To process applications for the employment of expatriates in Travel Agency.

  • To review the licensing system and procedures so as to enhance the service delivery system.
