The BIMP-EAGA Seminar on Halal Food Services in Tourism: Best Operational Practices was held on 1 July 2026 in Brunei Darussalam as part of the Brunei Mid-Year Conferences and Events (Brunei MYCE) 2026. The seminar was organised by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) through the Tourism Development Department in collaboration with the Faculty of Halal Science and Sustainable Tourism and the Halalan Thayyiban Research Centre of Universiti Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA).

The seminar gathered over 60 participants, including government officials, tourism industry practitioners, travel agents, tourism service providers, and representatives from BIMP-EAGA Member Countries. It provided a platform for participants to exchange knowledge, share experiences, and discuss current developments in halal food services and tourism operations.

The main objective of the seminar was to enhance understanding of Muslim traveller expectations and promote best practices in managing halal food services and tourism facilities. Discussions focused on halal compliance, certification processes, food preparation, food handling, and service delivery to support quality and trusted halal tourism experiences.

The seminar also highlighted emerging trends in halal tourism, including changing consumer expectations, digital innovation, sustainability, and opportunities to strengthen destination competitiveness. Keynote presentations and discussion sessions allowed participants to explore practical approaches and share experiences in implementing halal standards within tourism operations.

The programme included a technical tour to Royal Brunei Culinary (RBC) and visits to cultural sites, providing participants with insights into Brunei Darussalam’s halal food management practices, Islamic heritage, and tourism offerings. The seminar concluded by emphasising the importance of continued collaboration, knowledge sharing, and capacity building among BIMP-EAGA Member Countries to strengthen halal-friendly tourism and support sustainable tourism development in the region.
